VMWARE vSPHERE® VIRTUAL MACHINE ENCRYPTION

December 28, 2017

Virtual machine (VM) encryption has been around in different forms for many years and has met with various levels of success. The challenges of ensuring security versus running IT operations frequently led to solutions that, while secure, exponentially increased operational workload. The attempt to force existing rules onto a newer platform caused difficulties. By its very nature, virtualization changes the game. Rather than looking to that layer to provide security services, existing encryption solutions try to take the same approach one would take with a laptop or bare metal server.

Accelerating Enterprise Applications and Reducing TCO with SanDisk ZetaScale™ Software

whitePaper |

ZetaScale is engineered to utilize the unique advantages of flash memory and to maximize parallelism in data access. Simply replacing HDDs with SSDs in servers provides some performance improvement, but ZetaScale provides 2x to 3x additional improvement, by optimizing software for efficient flash access. As we have shown for NoSQL databases, ZetaScale allows much fewer servers to support the same application load. TCO may be reduced as much as 70% -- potentially saving millions of dollars in servers, DRAM, power, and cooling over several years in a large installation. In the case of in-memory databases, ZetaScale allows much larger data sets to be supported at essentially the same performance level by optimizing the placement of objects in memory and on flash. This again drives server consolidation and provides a 2x-4x improvement in price/performance.

IT PLANNING AND INTEGRATION ENSURING M&A SUCCESS IN THE DIGITAL BUSINESS AGE

A merger and acquisition (M&A) of one corporation with another is a significant event that mandates several teams from both companies collaborate and align on various items.
