THE CRITICAL ROLE OF SUPERCOMPUTING IN THE NEXT WAVE OF AI

June 12, 2019

While it used to be that enterprises with the greatest computing power were considered the most competitive, today it’s all about leveraging data in exciting new ways to uncover critical business insights. Driven by the need to solve intractable problems and cope with the data deluge, adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) among enterprises has exploded over the last few years, and now virtually every organization under the sun is scrambling to integrate and deploy AI methodologies in their core business practices. Those getting it right are provided a glimpse into the true promise and opportunity of AI; the ability to fully see into their business data and extract value from it that will improve current lines-of-business and potentially unveil entirely new business models.

Building a Retail Brand with Construction Software

whitePaper | April 16, 2020

A well-built store—one that is consistent with others under a retailer’s umbrella—is a powerful tool for communicating a brand. In fact, arguably nothing (beyond the product itself) is a more tangible signifier of the brand than the store environment. This puts the store planning team in the position of acting as brand managers and means that for the construction manager, whether he/she is employed in house by the retail company or as a contractor specializing in retail construction, understanding the brand (the retailer’s goals, visions, and marketing strategies) is a cornerstone of day-to-day work.

Machine Learning on Arm Cortex-M Microcontrollers

whitePaper | January 20, 2022

Machine learning (ML) algorithms are moving to the IoT edge due to various considerations such as latency, power consumption, cost, network bandwidth, reliability, privacy and security. Hence, there is an increasing interest in developing neural network (NN) solutions to deploy them on low-power edge devices such as the Arm Cortex-M microcontroller systems. To enable that, we present CMSIS-NN, an open-source library of optimized software kernels that maximize the NN performance on Cortex-M cores with minimal memory footprint overhead. We further present methods for NN architecture exploration, using image classification on CIFAR-10 dataset as an example, to develop models that fit on such constrained devices.

Bringing Job Costing to the Field

whitePaper | April 16, 2020

In construction, we are often designing and constructing made-to-order assets, so there is immediately less certainty. We may be dealing with multiple projects for different people, with different schedules, and run by different project managers. Each will be in a different location, with different site footprints, different ground conditions, different access routes, etc. And, partly influenced by their locations, we are often dealing with different suppliers we might select local designers, subcontractors, plant, materials, and product suppliers based on their proximity to the site.

AI-driven Personalizationin Digital MediaPolitical and Societal Implications

whitePaper | December 6, 2019

Machine learning (ML)-driven personalization is fast expanding from social media to the wider information space, encompassing legacy media, multinational conglomerates and digital-native publishers: however, this is happening within a regulatory and oversight vacuum that needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency. Mass-scale adoption of personalization in communication has serious implications for human rights, societal resilience and political security. Data protection, privacy and wrongful discrimination, as well as freedom of opinion and of expression, are some of the areas impacted by this technological transformation.
