Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and the GDPR European Union General Data Protection Regulation

April 30, 2018

The European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new, comprehensive data protection law that goes into effect on May 25, 2018. It applies broadly to organizations based in the EU and elsewhere that collect and process the personal information of individuals residing in the EU. This paper explains how the features and functionality of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure can help customers meet some of their GDPR requirements. This paper does not provide an exhaustive discussion of the GDPR requirements, nor does it give compliance advice. Customers are advised to seek their own legal counsel to develop and implement their GDPR compliance program.

The UK’s AI Strategy: Where Are We Now?

whitePaper | September 22, 2022

Last year, the UK Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) published its 10- year National AI Strategy for the regulation and promotion of artificial intelligence (AI) in the UK (Report). DCMS seeks to build “the most pro-innovation regulatory environment in the world” and vows to make the UK the “best place to live and work with AI” over the next decade. Since then, the UK government and regulators have taken various steps towards this aim, with the Report anticipating a large number of AI-centric publications and consultations. Some key examples (and their latest status) are summarised below, including a policy paper and white paper on a pro-innovation national position on governing and regulating AI, an Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) consultation on the beta version of its AI and data protection risk toolkit, and a consultation on copyright and patents for AI through the UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO).

Machine Learning on Arm Cortex-M Microcontrollers

whitePaper | January 20, 2022

Machine learning (ML) algorithms are moving to the IoT edge due to various considerations such as latency, power consumption, cost, network bandwidth, reliability, privacy and security. Hence, there is an increasing interest in developing neural network (NN) solutions to deploy them on low-power edge devices such as the Arm Cortex-M microcontroller systems. To enable that, we present CMSIS-NN, an open-source library of optimized software kernels that maximize the NN performance on Cortex-M cores with minimal memory footprint overhead. We further present methods for NN architecture exploration, using image classification on CIFAR-10 dataset as an example, to develop models that fit on such constrained devices.

AI in Planning: Opportunities and Challenges and How to Prepare

whitePaper | September 28, 2022

As stated in the American Planning Association’s 2022 Trend Report for Planners, over centuries, professions have evolved with changing environments, shifting eras, new challenges, societal shifts, and technological innovations. While some professions have become obsolete or or were replaced by technology, others have adapted or readjusted and stayed relevant in an ever-changing world. What is different today is the pace of change, which requires faster, even proactive, adjustments—including new tools, processes, and skills.
