Siemens and Google Cloud will Collaborate for AI-powered Manufacturing Solutions

Google Cloud and Siemens, an innovation and technology leader in industrial automation and software, announced a new collaboration today to simplify factory operations and increase shop floor productivity. Siemens plans to combine Google Cloud's leading data cloud and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) technology with its factory automation systems to assist manufacturers in innovating for the future.

Today's manufacturing processes are driven by data, but many factories prefer to use legacy software and multiple systems to analyze plant data, which is resource-intensive and necessarily requires regular manual upgrades to ensure accuracy. Moreover, while several businesses have implemented AI projects in "islands" around the factory floor, manufacturers have failed to incorporate AI at scale across their global operations.

Siemens has built its company on pioneering technologies that have propelled the automotive industry forward for more than 170 years. Manufacturers will be able to align their factory data, run cloud-based AI/ML models on top of that data, and deploy algorithms at the network edge by integrating Google Cloud's data cloud and AI/ML technologies with Siemens' Digital Industries Factory Automation portfolio. This allows applications such as visual product inspection and predicting machine wear and tear on the assembly line.

Deploying AI on the factory floor and incorporating it into automation and the network is a dynamic task that necessitates highly technical experience as well as innovative products like Siemens Industrial Edge. The collaboration between Google Cloud and Siemens aims to make AI integration in connection with the Industrial Edge—and its management at scale—easier by inspiring employees on the factory floor, automating mundane tasks, and optimizing overall productivity.
