CAST Launches Green Software Insights to Improve Sustainability in Software Development

CAST Launches CAST Highlight, a Green Software Insights Solution

CAST Highlight, green software insights is a new tool from CAST that analyzes application source code to figure out how it affects the environment. The technology can be used to find places in software where it can be improved to use less energy.

The news came at a good time, since the emissions from data centers are the same as those from the whole airline industry. The design and development of software can affect 85% of the carbon emissions it makes. The technology provides organizations with the ability to measure the sustainability of custom-built applications and modify them to reduce emissions.

Vincent Delaroche, founder and CEO of CAST, said, “For the first time, organizations can clearly measure the sustainability of custom-built applications, continually demonstrate their environmental impact reduction, and understand exactly how to modify them to reduce emissions.” He added, “Users are able to rapidly analyze portfolios of hundreds or thousands of applications to automatically prioritize the key enhancement candidates with specific recommendations provided by CAST Highlight.”

CAST Highlight analyzes portfolios of applications and provides recommendations. By analyzing source code repositories, it identifies patterns that waste resources and can be optimized. CAST will give 10% of the money it makes from Green Software Insights to groups that do research on sustainability.
